Youth School Garden and Sustainable Agriculture project funded
by Australian High Commission under the Direct Aid Project and
contribution from B-BOVID (Building Business On Values,
Integrity & Dignity).
Youth School Garden and Sustainable Agriculture is a project
that seeks to increase the engagement of youth in agricultural
sector and promote food security. The project involves a
training workshop for participants on agriculture, its
importance, potentials and opportunities, vegetables cultivation
and the factors to consider in vegetable production, school
assemble presentation where participants shared lessons learnt
during the training with their peers, and practical learning
element where each school has established a vegetable garden
with the following vegetables carrot, cucumber, lettuce, green
pepper, onion and tomatoes with supervision by facilitators and
teachers.
The project was in partnership with B-BOVID (Building Business
on Values, Integrity and Dignity) and Australian High Commission
under the Direct Aid Programme. The objectives of the project
was to showcase to the youth that agriculture does not have to
be highly labour intensive with low economic return, and that it
can be incredibly profitable and commercially viable. This
project showcased the great potentials in modernized sustainable
agriculture and feed into the school feeding programme in
schools. The beneficiaries are ten (10) selected schools in
Ahanta West District involving seven hundred (700) participants
of which three hundred and eighty six (386) are males and three
hundred and fourteen (314) are females. The ten (10) selected
schools are Pretsea D/A J.H.S, Funkoe D/A J.H.S, Kejabil D/A
J.H.S, New Amanful D/A J.H.S, Artur Fischer J.H.S, Ankyernyin
D/A J.H.S, Apowa Methodist J.H.S, Beahu D/A J.H.S, Adjua D/A
J.H.S andBeahu Catholic J.H.S.
