Women in Agriculture: Introducing
Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP ) variety to women in
Partnership with MoFA
Women in agriculture is a project that seeks to increase the
nutritional deficiency in children and pregnant women in Western
Region of Ghana. The project involves demonstration on how to
cultivate the sweet potato, how to prepare different recipe from
the plant and workshop on the nutritional benefit of the plant.
TRACTOR’s demonstration farm serves as a demonstration centre
for the cultivation of the crop as well as multiplication centre
where the planting materials (vine cuttings) were multiplied and
distributed to the participants.
The project was in partnership with Women in Development,
Western Region Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The objectives
of the project were to improve on the nutritional need of
children and pregnant women as well as engage women in producing
and selling the crop to increase their income. The beneficiaries
were women between the ages of 18 and 40 in Ahanta West and
Shama district. Seventy six (76) women from 27 communities from
both district participated.
